Teaching

“I will teach all ages from the very young to the mature student
as long as they are enthusiastic to learn”

Hello - I have a passion for music and have been teaching piano for more years than I care to remember and I still find teaching inspirational and fulfilling.

It does not matter about your age - your time of life should be no barrier to learning and enjoying music.

My aim is for you to enjoy learning new pieces of a wide variety of music including the jazz piano syllabus of both London College of Music and ABRSM - there is never any pressure to take examinations - that is entirely your decision.

Music Theory and Aural Skills

I can also help you with music theory, whether or not the piano is your instrument - it’s a like a map or sat nav to assist your journey forward.

Studying music theory aural skills helps:

  • Understand how music works, irrespective of style or instrument and aids your own enjoyment

  • To write and play music accurately

  • To detect errors

  • Sight reading, styles and genres

  • To explore your talent

  • Composing your own tune or song

  • Chords

  • Children understand how music works

I have been having lessons with Michael for just over a year and I am very pleased with the progress I have made.

Michael has a very positive and patient approach to his teaching, as one of his more mature pupils he appreciates that I need longer to process things than his younger pupils.

I have never studied music theory but Michael worked through the syllabus with me and after only 6 months I passed Grade 1 with Distinction!

I would not hesitate to recommend Michael to anyone looking for a piano teacher for themselves or their children."

                       - Jackie, West Midlands.

I have 30 years experience in teaching students of all ages and experiences.

In my opinion, a good musician must put into practice what he teaches and continually seek new challenges.

So I embarked on a new Diploma,  to be an Associate of Trinity College, London.  I was required a perform a 40 min recital of at least 2 pieces.  My selection included pieces by Schubert, Rachmaninoff and Beethoven.  Some were new pieces that I have always wanted to perform and some were past favourites that I have performed (and won!)  in piano competitions.

"I have been under the tutelage for my piano lessons with Michael and have taken 2 LCM exams and 1 ABRSM exam under him, passed with Distinction or Merit! He is a very dedicated painstaking tutor and works with his pupils to whatever level of piano one may aspire to. He recognises the limitations of his pupils, young or older and teaches them with  patience and understanding.

I have no hesitation in recommending Michael to any person who is desirous of learning piano."
